Green Pledge, a GRIHA initiative, aims to engage the leaders of the corporate world in committing to sustainable building practices and move towards a sustainable built environment.

 Global Climate Change is perhaps the most significant threat today presenting the most  daunting challenge that humanity has ever faced.

 With the firm belief that individual and collective efforts must be made and that every step  towards this goal can make a meaningful difference, we, the key stakeholders of a  responsible civil society representing governmental organizations, public and private sector  enterprises, professionals of  construction industry and all other sectors:

 Acknowledging that wasteful Energy use can impact global warming significantly and  therefore energy conservation and efficiency must receive utmost priority;

 Noting that the real estate and construction sector is growing at a rate greater than 10%;

 Recognising that buildings are responsible for more than 40% of total energy use and that  this energy use in buildings is growing rapidly;

 Recalling that the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change has stated that the building  sector has the greatest potential for achieving significant emission reductions and energy  savings using available mature technologies;

 Appreciating that a little additional investment today to improve energy efficiency of  buildings and using clean energy technologies would bring substantial cost savings over its  life cycle;

 Knowing that a large number of new city complexes or industrial parks are being built which  can be fully green;

 Commit ourselves to taking immediate action to mitigate and adapt to climate change;

 taking this Pledge today

 to adopt methods of green building design in all new constructions in our establishments  and in new complexes and also to take measures to retrofit existing buildings with green  building measures wherever possible;

 and note that these measures include solar passive architecture, energy efficient systems,  rain water harvesting, waste to energy, adoption of solar and other renewable energy  systems;

 that we will strive to attain the highest green standards benchmarked by the government and  the industry.

 We call on every citizen to set an abiding example by adopting green measures in their  buildings and establishments and contribute to building a growing economy through  sustainable and responsible  practices.

 We can certainly make a big difference.

 Together.

 Let us pledge to make it happen.
