  Launch of GRIHA rating for Affordable Housing
 
 
GRIHA for Affordable Housing (AH) rating is a dedicated assessment cum rating tool to integrate sustainability in the affordable housing to be constructed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY). The rating system is designed with the underlining objectives, such as reducing costs, incorporation of cost effective sustainability measures attaining environmental impact reduction, simplicity in execution, alignment with the local and national goals.

As a prelude to the GRIHA summit, a panel of 6 eminent personalities including architects, real estate experts, environmentalist and developers, deliberated on "Is Sustainable Affordable?" Follow the video to know what the experts say.

  GRIHA Four Star Provisional Rating awarded to Extension of Hostel 10 at IIT Bombay, Mumbai
 
  The project has demonstrated compliance with all the mandatory requirements of ECBC 2007 and the EPI of the project was simulated as 48.23kWh/m2/year, implying 51.77% reduction in EPI from the benchmark. 6.6% and 65% reduction in the embodied energy of the building structure and non-structural system respectively, was achieved by replacing energy intensive materials. The other salient features of the project were 41% reduction in building water consumption by installing low flow fixtures, 92% of total living area is day lit, installation of 6kWp solar PV system, 100% use of low energy materials in interiors and so on.

World’s first 100% solar-powered train launches in Australia
The world’s first 100% solar-powered train is now gliding down tracks in Byron Bay, Australia. The Byron Bay Railroad Company refurbished a three-kilometer, or almost two-mile, stretch of tracks and restored a heritage train, outfitting it with a 6.5 kilowatt (kW) solar array with flexible solar panels.
Wind is now India’s cheapest source of clean energy
Auctions conducted in Gujarat on December 21 discovered a record low tariff of Rs 2.43 a unit. That is nearly 8% cheaper than the previous low of Rs 2.64 that the industry saw in October. This tariff is also less than the lowest solar power tariff of Rs 2.44 that the country recorded in May this year.
