  World Water Day 2019: Theme, History and Significance

On 22 March every year World Water Day is celebrated around the world to create the awareness about the importance of water and its conservation. This article deals with the importance of water, theme of World Water Day, why it is celebrated, history of World Water Day, etc. through this article

World Water Day is observed every year on 22nd March all over the world. It focuses attention towards importance of water and how to preserve it. As we know that water is essential for life, without water we can't survive. Up to 60% of the human adult body is water. All plants and animals need water to survive. If there was no water there would be no life on earth.

Therefore, it is necessary to understand that natural resources are important for sustaining life on earth. Do you know that approx. 2.1 billion people live without safe drinking water at home which affects their health and livelihoods? With the climate change, environment and ecosystem affect and results into the water-crises. Due to floods, drought, water pollution; vegetation, soil, rivers and lakes are degrading.

Out of 33 existing trees, 5 trees were cut, 28 trees were preserved and 55 new native trees were planted. The project has demonstrated 71.09% reduction in energy consumption compared to GRIHA benchmark. 54.58% of building water demand has been reduced by installing low flow plumbing fixtures and 31.20% of water savings was achieved in landscape water requirement due to the use of efficient irrigation system. Furthermore, 63.14% of the habitable spaces are day lit and meet the daylight factors prescribed by the National Building Code of India. Also, the project has installed solar PV panels of 15 kWp capacity on site to offset the conventional energy demand
