  December, 2020
Mr. Sanjay Seth, CEO GRIHA Council

As we look back on the tumultuous year 2020, I am pleased to see the response of the GRIHA Council team, who have risen to the challenge of embracing the new normal of remote presence and virtual connectivity. It is therefore with pleasure that I announce the first ever GRIHA Virtual Summit, on the 15 th and 16 th of December.

This year’s theme, “Rejuvenating Resilient Habitats”, centres on preparedness and the need to build infrastructure that is resilient in the event of disaster, both natural and man-made. Now more than ever it is imperative to strike a balance between social development and economic growth so that a normal is defined and unsustainable systems are reinvented in the face of climate change and a global pandemic. The Summit will additionally provide a platform for the launch of GRIHA version 2019, a more sensitized approach towards accessing sustainability as it applies to buildings. Even though we are unable to meet in person for the Summit this year, we at GRIHA look forward to interacting with you on a virtual platform.

On behalf of the GRIHA Council and our partners, I invite you all to the GRIHA Virtual Summit and wish you merry Christmas and a brighter New Year.

12th GRIHA Summit- Rejuvenating Resilient Habitats

Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Vice President of India on 15th December, 2020 at 1000 hrs. We will have a presentation of The Hon. Barry O’Farrell AO, High Commissioner to India, Australian High Commissioner in India; H. E. Mr. Freddy Svane, Ambassador, Royal Danish Embassy in India and Mr. Amit Dasgupta, Strategic Advisor, UNSW India in the ‘Setting the Theme session’. This would be followed by a technical session on ‘Sustainable Buildings for Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

Technical Session I: Sustainable Buildings for Atmanirbhar Bharat

Self-reliance in the building and construction industry is the need of the hour. Now more than ever we are realizing the devastating impacts of unsustainable practices in the construction industry.

While the various financial schemes under Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan offer more liquidity to building owners and developers, it is that onus on members of the building fraternity to facilitate context driven responses that are locally viable and beneficial to all stakeholders. By looking inwards, we can harness the immense knowledge that has traditionally existed in our nation be it in the way we construct or what ‘material’ we use to construct with.

This session would deliberate on the need for development of self-reliant buildings in the present scenario and how making the buildings sustainable would contribute in the achievement of the government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Technical Session II: Building Smart using Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Construction industry has evolved tremendously in the last few decades and technological advancements have been big contributors in the growth. Adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the construction sector has added another dimension to the planning, designing, construction and monitoring of not just building projects but in the development of smart cities as well.

This session is designed to give an overview of the BIM systems that offer intelligent solutions to create smart buildings and cities.

  Mindfulness session

In the face of a global pandemic many of us have found it challenging to keep ourselves focused and in control of our emotions. COVID-19 has clouded our consciousness with a sense of vulnerability, resulting in increased levels of anxiety, fatigue, low-self reliability and depression. It is therefore of utmost importance to keep ourselves motivated and look after our mental health. This session has been designed to help us develop a skilful mind and a sense of focus and well-being that can help maintain control and awareness of our thoughts, emotions, and presence in the moment.
