Carbon Sequestration – The Avenues by Nature

Climate change is perceived as an existential problem by many. However, a large part of this issue is attributed to the infrastructural development that often compromises on the existing natural features such as trees, soil and mountains, so much so that the carrying capacity of this natural environment lands in jeopardy. Researchers have identified the natural environment as a potentially capable mitigation strategy for greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, using such areas for carbon capture and storage shall have a great role to play in dealing with these emissions. Developing economies which are still facing huge infrastructural deficits need better planning and investments to decarbonize while meeting their development goals. This session aims to cut emissions through point source carbon capture and natural environment enabled carbon sequestration to restrict waste CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
