Plenary Session IV – Preparedness for Climate Change: Where India Stands

Countries have made conversation-stirring, buzz-creating commitments at global platforms to limit their impact on the environment. India’s commitment at COP26 to tread on the path to decarbonization by 2070 via Panchamrit – a five step set of goals has set off many conversations and actions.

Climate preparedness will have to address all pillars of Sustainability - environmental, social, economic and the extended and crucial pillar of governance. Policies, infrastructure, collaborative working and behavioral patterns have to be in tandem to prepare for and recover from climate impacts. There are multiple frameworks and processes that address and assess climate change mitigation activities carried out by various organizations across sectors. However, it is imperative to gauge the real-scale impact that any mitigation strategy carves, which makes it important to recapitulate the journey made so far, identify the issues, challenges and failures; and prepare the roadmap to decarbonize India. One side of the coin encompasses the collective impact on the environment; the other is the impact on people due to climate change, that also includes deadly health hazards.

This session intends to bring together industry experts from multi-sector to deliberate and review India’s stance on climate preparedness and the necessary escalatory interventions that need to be adopted to build resilient communities.
