ADaRSH (Association for Development and Research on sustainable habitat)

ADaRSH has been jointly formed by the MNRE (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy) and TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) to help promote GRIHA.It is a platform to facilitate a pan-India, on-going interaction and networking between building professionals, developers, and government officials. It was formally launched on 4 January, 2010 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, on the occasion of the first GRIHA National Conference.

GRIHA is a 'green building, design & performance evaluation system’, and is suitable for all kinds of buildings in different climate zones of India. GRIHA has been included in the CPWD Works Manual 2007 under Chapter 1, Section-6 as 6.18 titled 'Green Building Norms'. All CPWD (Central Public Works Department) constructions have to undergo internal certification by its own officers and follow the GRIHA rating system.

GRIHA is being promoted by the MNRE under its scheme on 'Energy Efficient Solar/Green Buildings'. The MNRE has also declared that the first 100 government. /public sector buildings shall be exempted from paying registration-cum-rating fee if they go for the GRIHA certification.

TERI SRC (The Energy and Resources Institute, Southern Regional Centre)

The southern regional centre was set up in Bangalore in 1990, with initial support from the Government of India and the European Commission. At inception, its primary objectives were to promote concepts and practices for improving industrial energy efficiency through a concerted programme of research, consultancy, training, and information dissemination.

Over the years, the centre has built its reputation not only in the realm of energy efficiency, but also in other spheres such as environmental services, rural and renewable energy, green buildings, resource-efficient process technology application for R&D activities in the areas of development of biodegradable and green plastics for short- and long-term use. It has successfully executed innumerable projects for various eminent Indian and multinational organizations, corporates, state and government departments, public and private sector enterprises, and international financial entities and aid agencies.

The centre has now five multi-disciplinary groups to deal in five focussed areas, namely:

  • Industrial Energy (IE)
  • Environmental Studies (ES)
  • Rural Extension Activity (REA)
  • Centre for Research on Sustainable Building Science (CRSBS)
  • Resource Efficient Process Technologies Application (REPTA)
