The 3rd Regional Conference and Exhibition - "Innovations in Sustainable Habitat - the GRIHA Approach" was organized at Hotel Vivanta by Taj, Bangalore on 10-11 December 2012 with the aim of taking forward the national green building rating system "GRIHA" in South India. The conference served as a platform for major stakeholders who are keen to explore sustainability and to create an enabling environment for the adoption of green habitats. The conference and exhibition was beguiled with participants from different disciplines like architecture, engineering, construction companies, corporates, financing institutes. The event focused on recent matters related to the green buildings and influence of GRIHA rating system towards energy efficient buildings. This time the conference theme was organized with a global vision and local focus. In the two day event, the first day focused on research towards innovative technologies and performance tools for green buildings while the second day continued with on-ground implementation strategies along with case studies of various green buildings.
The event was supported enthusiastically by the industry, reflecting in sponsorships and exhibition of green materials and technologies. Participating in the event turned out into a unique opportunity for the professionals to come together and engage in lively discussions on topics related to sustainable habitat.
The event demonstrated; the advantages of an integrated design process and its impact on building construction and operation, financial impacts by adopting energy efficiency in building design, advantages of using various innovative building technologies and cost effective construction techniques and how GRIHA upholds and influence these aspects within Indian context. Eminent personalities like Dr. R.K. Pachauri, Diretor General of TERI, Mr. T V Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Manipal Global Education Services and Ms. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairman and Managing Director for Biocon Ltd., had enraptured the conference with their presence and speech. Other eminent professionals who graced the event with their presentations include Mr. Aromar Revi, Director of IIHS, Mr. Aamer Azeemi, managing director of CISCO, Prof. Rajan Rawal, Executive Director of CEPT University and Mr. Toine Van Megen, co-founder of Auroville.
