GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) Council, acknowledged as the ‘National Rating System for Green Buildings in India’, was developed by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) with the support of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India. It is an indigenous green building rating system that evaluates the environmental performance of a building holistically over its entire life cycle across diverse parameters, thereby providing a definitive standard for green buildings and sustainable habitats. The Government of India (GoI) has recognized 'GRIHA' as a tool to evaluate Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reduction from habitats under its obligations to mitigate climate change as mentioned in the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) documentation submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
GRIHA Council was established to administer GRIHA & promote the construction of environmentally responsible and resource-efficient buildings. The GRIHA Council works towards streamlining the rating process to facilitate the adoption of sustainable practices in the built environment.
