Plenary Session 1

Integrating Climate Resilience into Smart City Planning

Urban spaces can not only thrive in the face of technological advancements but also need to adapt to the challenges posed by climate change. As cities grow and evolve, we need to think beyond just smart tech and infrastructure—it's about building cities that are both connected and sustainable. A holistic approach that makes the cities more energy-efficient, reduces carbon footprint and protects vulnerable populations is required. From greener public spaces to smart buildings and energy grids, the possibilities are endless. Ultimately, it's about creating urban environments that aren't just smart in terms of technology, but also resilient in ensuring a better, more sustainable quality of life for everyone, now and in the future.

In this session, we’ll explore strategies to integrate climate resilience into the fabric of smart city planning, governance and urban design that responds to environmental changes and predicts and mitigates climate risks based on datadriven solutions. It aims to engage city planners, architects and policymakers to deliberate on the policies, tools and knowledge required to build future-proof cities, ensuring they can withstand extreme weather events, rising temperatures, and other climate challenges whilst enhancing overall human well-being.
