The PCNTDA (Pimpri Chinchwad New Township Development Authority) has constructed a new administrative "green building" near Akurdi railway station at a cost of Rs 38 crore. Elaborating on the building, Mr. V K Patil, executive engineer with PCNTDA, said that the orientation of the building ensures minimal need to use electricity for lighting purposes. Besides good ventilation, it has solar panels installed on the terrace. It also has a back-up power connection from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited. The rainwater collected during rainy season on the terrace will be used for ground water charging. The building has a separate sewage treatment plant. They also have appointed TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) as consultant to get the five stars rating for the building.
