Green or sustainable building defines constructing healthier, more energy efficient and eco- friendly buildings. A Green Building uses less energy, water and natural resources creates less waste and is healthier for the people living inside compared to a standard building. GRIHA, an acronym for Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment, is the National Rating System of India. GRIHA has been conceived by TERI and developed jointly with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India. It is a green building design evaluation system, and is suitable for all kinds of buildings in different climatic zones of the country. There are many benefits of green buildings like:  Green Buildings consume 40 - 50 % less energy and 20 - 30 % less water than normal buildings. If all the structures in the world are constructed giving due importance to the ecosystem and energy efficiency, the harmful effects on the environment and the earth's eco-system such greenhouse effect, ozone layer depletion, global warming etc., can be prevented or minimized.
