A new report has found that the cost to build a new sustainable building is comparable if not slightly cheaper than the cost to build a standard building, while the added value of a green building can reach up to a 30 per cent premium. The report by the World Green Building Council (WGBC), released recently, looks at the business case for green buildings and analyses data from the last decade. It concludes the returns on an investment in a green building are becoming more profitable as innovation in the sector grows. The report finds the majority of green building costs range from 0 to 4 per cent when compared to the construction of standard code-compliant buildings, but in some cases are lower (-0.4 per cent).
