Building officials at Dubai Municipality explained that while all government buildings have to start adapting environmentally sustainable measures by 2014, it is optional for private buildings. The municipality is exerting its efforts in educating UAE nationals in the field of green buildings, and launched an awareness campaign under the slogan, 'Be Educated on Green Buildings'. Engineer Yousuf Abdullah, acting director of the Buildings Department, said that the awareness and educational programmes designed by the department include a number of activities such as training courses, seminars, exhibitions, publications and advertisements in all means of media targeting all categories of the society from consultants, contractors, suppliers, manufactures and developers. The programme also contains special activities for the public and students.
