A half-day GRIHA Awareness Programme was organized by GRIHA Council in association with Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Kottayam on 29th June, 2018 at Department of Architecture, RIT, Kottayam.

The inaugural address was delivered by Dr. Binumol Tom, HOD - Architecture, RGIT. She shared her view on green buildings and its benefits. She emphasized on the principles of vernacular architecture based on climatic conditions, culture and traditions and raised concern over the new age construction practices without much thought towards such factors. She appreciated the efforts of GRIHA to have developed an indigenous rating system and the constant effort to update and make it better to cater to sustainability in a holistic way. She concluded with the hope of a more resource efficient world which can sustain the needs and aspirations of the current and future generation.

An overview of GRIHA rating system and its variants was delivered by GRIHA officials. Presentation on GRIHA Version 2015 was delivered highlighting the intent of the sections and their criteria. A few GRIHA projects were presented at case studies to conclude the awareness programme.

The objective of this awareness program was to showcase sustainable approach towards planning, development and management of various resources related to the building and group of buildings. The programme gave the participants an opportunity to explore green buildings and to understand the importance of going green.

The programme was attended by building professionals like architects, engineers, developers, academicians and students. The programme was very well received by the participants.
