A green building is defined as a type of building which uses less amount of water, optimizes the energy usage, conserves natural resources, generates lesser waste and provides healthier living spaces, when compared to a normal conventional building. The selection of using eco-friendly materials and products while constructing a green building plays an important role in the 'greenness' of the project. This plays an important role in saving energy and, in turn, reduces the environmental impact of the building.

The DUAC (Delhi Urban Art Commission) has recommended the urban development ministry increase the FAR (Floor Area Ratio) for all green buildings by 1 percent. The GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) has become compulsory in Delhi and hence it is easy to develop green architecture buildings in the city. A few of the green building consultants in Delhi include Aastha Agarwal, Abdullah Nisar Siddiqui, and DBHMS Consultants etc. A few of the Delhi’s green buildings include Civic Centre, the Energy Resources Institute Campus, and ITC Green Centre, etc.
