The number of developers applying for a green certificate for their buildings has risen dramatically since a policy change in 2011. The policy requires developers to undergo the Green Building Council's assessment if they want to be granted floor area concessions. They are awarded extra floor area for adding green features to their buildings. The council's figures showed that the number of projects registered for the assessment saw an almost 100 per cent jump - from just 11 in 2010 to 109 in 2011 and 194 last year. As of last month, 65 projects registered this year. Almost half - 44 per cent - of the 379 projects were residential developments, while 17 per cent were commercial and 18 per cent were government buildings.
