The NCGD 2013 was inaugurated by the Hon'ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee and graced by Dr. Farooq Abdulah, Hon'ble Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Government of India and Dr. R K Pachauri, Director General of TERI and President ADaRSH.  Shri Mukherjee expressed his happiness over the fact that GRIHA is addressing challenges that impede implementation of sustainable habitats and urged States and Central Ministries "to promote creation of sustainable habitats all over the country, the GRIHA way". The President directed all "urban bodies to make certain aspects mandatory while introducing a set of incentives and disincentives to follow this approach".
