If an airport marks the gateway of a city, Chennai will soon get the status of a city with Asia's greenest gateway in another couple of months. The glass-steel structure ensures lighting everywhere inside the terminal. There is no physical obstruction for light to pass through save glass walls and water curtains. The Airports Authority of India has already applied for a Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) certification for the eco-friendly applications of the terminal.
