One-day, CPWD Training Programme
As a part of the Nation-wide series of sensitization programmes for CPWD Officials, we conducted a one-day workshop on Green Buildings, ECBC and the GRIHA Green Building rating system. The workshop was attended by senior level CPWD officers such as executive engineers. The program started with an introductory overview on the state of the built environment in India and the various initiatives of the central government towards tackling climate change in cities. The next session was focussed on the GRIHA rating system and introduced the officials to the requirements and contexts of the rating and its various criteria. It also helped identify the rationale behind structuring the various criteria and their impacts with respect to the current model of urban development and architecture. The post lunch session saw two presentations; one on a GRIHA rating case study, the Suzlon One-Earth corporate headquarters in Pune. The presentation was made by Ms Kavita Jain from the firm Environmental Design Solutions, from Pune. She highlighted how the various criteria of GRIHA were applied in the specific case of Suzlon One Earth and what benefits were accrued there-from. The last presentation was made by Mr Pradeep Kumar from the Centre for Research on Sustainable Building Sciences, and it focussed on the aspects of energy efficiency in buildings through optimization of lighting and space conditioning systems.
