The first edition of the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) National Conference was organized by the GRIHA Secretariat with the support of TERI and the Ministry for New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, on 4 January 2010. The one-day conference was inaugurated by Dr Farooq Abdullah, Hon’able Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy. In the welcome address, Dr Pachauri announced the formal launch of the Association for Development and Research of Sustainable Habitats (ADaRSH), which shall be the GRIHA Secretariat. Secretary, MNRE gave his remarks and announced that the central government and all public sector undertakings under the central government shall, henceforth, construct all new buildings to achieve a minimum of GRIHA 3 Star standard. There were four technical sessions focusing on GRIHA rating system, sustainable buildings, sustainable habitat, and tools and techniques for designing sustainable buildings.
