GRIHA Zero Waste Certification

Cities in India have been expanding at an unmatched pace and this is expected to continue over the coming decades. With the ever-increasing population, industrialization and changing lifestyles, the environment around us is getting impacted severely. As a part of environmental degradation, India is facing the massive issue of solid waste generation. This unsustainably managed waste is either disposed into unregulated dumps or burned in open leading to serious health and environmental hazards. Therefore, managing solid waste and treating it in the right way is not a choice but the need of the hour.

Solid waste management strategies aim at reducing the negative impacts of waste generation on the health of our people, cities and the planet. Individuals or organizations acing the sustainability ideologies are now walking an extra mile by embracing the ‘Zero Waste’ concepts to minimize the impact of their existence on the climate. The philosophy of ‘Zero’ Waste’ requires intervention right at the initial stage by eliminating the use of unnecessary materials, replacing non-recyclable items by recyclable ones, segregating wastes generated, storing them hygienically and ensuring the reuse or recycle of all the wastes generated to avoid waste reaching landfills.

The GRIHA Council works towards helping organizations in achieving their sustainability goals by making them well versed with the concepts of passive architecture and energy, waste and water management, thereby leading to resource efficiency. Experts from GRIHA Council provide solutions based on the current market trends and innovations in the field of sustainability.
