A 3 day series of half day workshops on 'Green Materials for Sustainable Building Solutions' was organized in New Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai on 10th, 11th and 12th of July, 2017, respectively, by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) and Ministry of Economic Development in association with GRIHA Council, Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IICCI) and The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA). The various technical sessions included experts' work and insights on 'New sustainable Materials and Technologies', 'Increasing productivity and profitability', 'Bamboo-the new steel material for sustainable buildings', 'Innovation towards zero energy' and so on. The participants were also familiarized with the 3rd party product certifications and the GRIHA Product Catalogue. The broad structure of the GRIHA rating system was presented and the intent behind inclusion of the sustainable building materials section in the national green building rating system was explained in depth, which included criterion 19, 20 and 21. The salient features of the GRIHA product catalogue were also presented at the forum and the session was concluded with a positive note by reiterating the fact that "A good design is not just about aesthetics but a well thought combination of climate responsive design strategies and low environmental impact materials", which eventually makes it a 'Green Building'.
